Today was a pretty good day. Lia showed some more discomfort last night, that we weren't able to take care of with pain meds, so now we are treating her with her withdrawal meds again. She was on SO many different medications after all her surgeries, that she needs some more help coming off them. The withdrawal meds have made her sleep most of the day, so we haven't had much interaction with her today, but if I had to pick between seeing her go through withdrawals or sleeping, I wouldn't definitely pick sleeping! They tell me that her vomiting after her tube feeds was probably due to the withdrawals too, and now that shes back on the withdrawal meds, she hasn't vomited once today!
She also had several oxygen desaturations today, which was concerning, so the doctor ordered another chest x-ray (She gets an x-ray every morning too). Turns out, she had some extra fluid hanging around her lungs, which was causing the desaturations. After some further investigating, the doctor discovered that she went 16 hours without a dose of her lasix (which helps get rid of extra fluids). According to the doctor, sometimes these "computer glitches" (doctors words...) do happen. I was annoyed that it happened, but very glad to have an answer as to why she was desaturating! She is all caught back up on her lasix now, and hasn't had the desaturations like she was having earlier.
Since Lia is so "zonked" from her withdrawal meds, we haven't tried any oral feedings. She is getting all her formula from her feeding tube, which is probably a good thing since she hates how bad it tastes. She hasn't thrown up once today!
We talked to Jack for a while tonight on the phone. He had lots of fun with his great grandma and grandpa this week (his babysitters while my parents were at work). Thank you, Nanny and Grandpa, for helping us out! We really appreciate it! Ryan and I are so thankful to our parents and grandparents for helping us out with Jack during this time. On Sunday, he will head back to Fairbank with my in-laws hopefully only for a few days, as we are crossing our fingers and praying that we might get discharged next week if Lia keeps up all the good work.
Not much else to report on tonight. Tomorrow we are looking forward to a visit from some good friends of ours from Iowa. Planning on getting out of the hospital tomorrow night for some dinner out with them.
Attaching a few pictures. 2 from yesterday and 1 from today :)
