Surprise!

Not a whole lot to report on Lia tonight.  She had a pretty good day. Her chest is still open, and they were hoping to close that tomorrow morning, but then she had to receive fluids a few times today, so now that might be pushed back again incase of more swelling.  Other than that, things are going well.  Her oxygen levels have been very good since her second surgery to fix the shunt.  We also heard that Lia's genetic testing for a syndrome called Digeorge came back negative!  10-15% of Tetrology babies have it, and it can cause some complications.  You can click on it to read more about it.

I had a good day today as well!  I woke up refreshed, ready to take on whatever God had in store for today.  Around 11, I had quite a surprise!  A nurse came to get me and asked me to come with her.  I followed her out to the waiting room, nervous for what she was about to tell me.  When I got there my entire team from school had come to surprise me! (Thank you, Trina for getting enough subs so everyone could come!!)  It was sooo nice of them to drive up to see Lia, Ryan and I.  They got me out of the hospital for a while, and took me to lunch at Tomfooleries on the plaza!  We had a good time catching up.

My in-laws also came back down to be with us for a few days today as well. They took us to dinner tonight at the Cheesecake Factory.  I had never eaten there before, and it was delicious.  So if you were counting, I only ate hospital cafeteria food ONE time today!  I must admit though, the cafeteria food here is pretty decent!  It's just nice to change it up once in a while.

I did get teary tonight when I had to say goodnight to Lia again.  I just want to hold her SO BAD!  I can't wait until she wakes up and I'm able to snuggle with her just like before.  My emotions are so crazy.  I can be calm and collected for a few hours, and then I'll see Lia, or see something that reminds me of Jack, or see a couple pushing their baby in a stroller (wishing it was me) and I start crying instantly.  I'm ready to be a real family again. All of us under one roof, instead of three!

Grandma Sue got out Uncle Jameson's old lego table for Jack to play with!  He's in Heaven playing with it!

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that!
