The Heat is ON!

When will this heat wave end? Holy buckets, its HOT! Thank goodness for AC! My heart just breaks for people who don't have it during times like these. There are lots of cooling centers in Wichita for people who don't have air, thank goodness! The windows in our living room face the west, and from about 3:00pm to 9:00pm our AC just cannot keep up! It's miserable! During those hours we spend a lot of our time on the other side of the apartment where it's cooler.

Not a whole lot new is going on down here...I'm attaching some new pictures from the last week! We have quite a bit going on this week: Tomorrow, I'm hosting a jewelry party with my friend Shannon, Thursday Jack is going to Dawn's house (old babysitter) to spend his last day with her, and while he is there, I am meeting my team at school to get started on some lesson plans. The district, yet again, changed what our reading block looks like, so we need to re-vamp some of the stuff we've done in previous years. Then on Saturday, Ryan and I are going to 'Blues, Brews, and BBQ' here in Wichita. Ryan's favorite band, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, is playing along with several other bands. It's gonna be hot, but so fun!!


This pic was taken after a bath...he LOVES to stand up! He still isn't crawling, and is working really hard on pulling up (with help from Mommy and Daddy), but once he gets up, he's so happy! Ryan says this picture ranks in the top 5 amongest all pictures taken of Jack! SO CUTE!

Play time!

Jack LOVES to watch his 'Praise Baby' DVD. If you have an infant, I highly recommend it! It's praise songs with a bunch of different pictures of kids and other things. I don't know how they do it, but Jack CANNOT take his eyes off of it!

Night light that my friend Katy made for Jack...its one of those sqaure privacy blocks that you use in your house (usually in bathrooms), stuffed with Christmas lights! You can't really tell in the picture, but it's yellow and black (Hawkeye colors!!)


For Ryans birthday, my parents gave him an Iowa front plate! He loves it!



This is video from our first time brushing Jack's teeth and gums...yes I know, we should've started this a while ago, but atleast we're making an effort to do it now! He loves having his gums brushed, and they make special baby gum cleaner so if he swallows any, it won't hurt him. The brush is this thing you stick on the end of your finger and it has tiny bristles on it.

OMG - he is looking more and more like Ryan every day!! He is such a cutie!! Can't wait to see him again some day!!!!

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that!
