Out and About

Jack has been learning his way around Wichita over the past couple of weeks. Here are some pictures from his journeys:
At Olive Garden with Morgan and Monica! Of course, he slept the whole time! Monica will be a mommy in July! So happy for her!


Christmas shopping with Daddy at Kohls. We love the Baby Bjorn. So much more convenient than pushing the stroller around, especially with stores full of holiday shoppers! I know it appears as if Jack can't breathe while in this, but I promise you, he is breathing (seriously, I checked about 1400 times that day...)


Jack with Dr. Hesse! Here we are at Jack's 1 month appointment! He is weighing in at 9 lbs 2 oz. now! He is in the 33rd percentile for his weight, and 95th percentile for his length. Getting bigger everyday! Next months appointment: SHOTS!!! Mommy is very nervous and worried about this one, maybe Daddy will have to take him. We LOVE Dr. Hesse. He's wonderful.


Jack got to go to Linwood to meet Mommy's "other" kids. Here is a class picture with Miss Unruh (my long term sub). They were all very excited to meet Jack. Mrs. Shields' rule for meeting the baby: You can look, but you can't touch!!
First thing said when I walked in the door: "Mrs. Shields! You got skinny!"

Jack got his picture taken with Santa while he was at school too, but that is on a friends camera. As soon as I get the pic, I will post it!
It's about 7:30 am, and I am just getting ready to go wake up Jack and Daddy so we can get the car loaded and begin our trip back home to Iowa today! We are soooo excited to take Jack home with us so he can meet lots and lots of family and friends! I plan on blogging while in Iowa, so keep checking back for pictures from our trip home.

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that!
