Spring Break/1st Birthday/Easter


Catching you up on the last couple of weeks around here!  Including spring break, Lia's first birthday, and Easter weekend!  REALLY looking forward to some warmer weather, green grass, playing outside, and of course, the count down to summer vacation!

Spring Break:

In Iowa City for the first round of the NIT with Brooke and Zach!  We had a blast!

Spent some time at the Norwalk Library.

Also spent a couple days in Fairbank.  Here is Grandpa Maury with his granddaughters!

Lia was upset about something and we told Megan to give her a kiss.  She decided to kiss Grandma Diane instead!
The last part of our spring break was spent celebrating Lia's fist birthday!  We had our family there to help us enjoy the occasion!  Hard to believe it's already been a year since she was born!

Had to get some help on this one from Jack and cousin, Megan.

We used the fellowship hall at my Grandpa B.'s church for the location, since we had almost 30 people there to help celebrate!


What else is in there? Lia got TONS of adorable clothes!  I can't wait for it to warm up!

The day of Lia's actual birthday we had a small gift opening.
The following weekend, was Easter!  Jack was really into egg dying and egg hunting this year.  It's a fun age for him, and I loved seeing how 'into' it he got!

We normally do the late-night egg hunt with flashlights in Norwalk, however, due to rain, they had to move it indoors, which was still fun!

It looks like it was light here, but it was pitch black!  The kids had to use their flashlights to find eggs!  My flash lit everything up!

Nanny and Grandpa helped entertain Lia while Ryan and I took Jack hunting for eggs!  She loved playing with them.

We had lunch at Prairie Meadows in Altoona.  DELICIOUS.
Lia's 1 year stats:
  • 20 lbs. 3 oz.
  • 30 inches
  • Walking!
  • We just got permission to put her in the church nursery!  Thank goodness!  Those church services were getting quite hard to keep her entertained.  Pediatrician said since it's only for an hour once a week, she would let us do it!  Yay!
Hope you enjoyed Easter with your families, and remember the reason why we celebrate!

I'm so happy to hear how well her birthday went. She fought long and hard to make it to this big day!

Hi Ashley! Happy belated 1st birthday to Lia. I love the pics of her party...made me feel like I was there amidst the pink. How fun! Also, beautiful Easter pics of the kids and your family. Those are some major celebrations in a few days and I'm glad you take so many photos to share. I don't have a good excuse for being lacking on reading your blog other than we've been on-the-go alot. Looking forward to seeing your mom & dad this weekend while we're in D.M. for meetings. What great news about Lia's tests AND Jack getting into your preschool. It sounds like life is going well for you guys...so many blessings...so happy for you. PTL!

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that! Once again, thank you for all your continued support and prayer!  Don't we have an amazing God? These oral feedings r...
