Soccer and Retirement

 We had a great weekend!  Friday night we traveled to Coralville to stay with our friends Nate and Kim, and their ADORABLE son, Benson.  It was great catching up with them!  Saturday morning, we headed to Iowa City to see our nephew, Noah's soccer game!  After Noah's game, it was back to Coralville for our nephew, Zach's, soccer game!  We enjoyed a nice lunch with Leo, Sarah, and the boys before saying our goodbyes.  Jack and Lia had a lot of fun at the games.

Sunday, we headed to Carlisle to celebrate my Grandpa B.'s retirement.  He gave his last sermon on Sunday morning, and we were all there to see it.  A very special day.  After church, we enjoyed a nice reception with my grandparents and their church family. 

How about this wonderful weather?  I am loving it.  I know its supposed to cool down again on Wed., but I am soaking up every minute of the sun.  Wagon rides, endless sidewalk chalk drawings, sitting on the deck with Morgan, and chasing Lia around the yard!  I can't wait for spring to stay.

My Grandpa B was the one who married Ryan and I.  August '08.  A very special memory.  This was the best picture I could come up with from our wedding with him in it, without digging through our storage unit for our wedding album.  I was crying and reaching for a tissue from Morgan :)

Hey there, Ashley! Don't you just love spring time?! Thanks for posting all the pics. Since I don't do much on facebook, I love seeing all your family...but for some reason there's not many of Jeff & Sue!!! I got to see them briefly at the Drake Relays on Saturday, along with your Gma & Gpa. It's weird how little I see them in Washington, then do in D.M. It is amazing that Lia's surgeries were a year ago AND now look at her. Still such a miracle to behold! Jack is always coming up with such fun ideas. Loved the "SCORE" poster :) It's good you and Ryan get couple time away. I'm sure you stopped over to see us when you were in Washington, right??? If I'm counting the weekends correctly, I think we were in Lake of the Ozarks then. We'll catch you another time! Love & blessings, Tammy

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that!
