Season Change!

Fall is in full swing here! This is how I know:  The leaves are changing color and falling off the trees!  The air has cooled down.  We put an extra blanket on Jack's bed.  Both kids' wardrobes are changed out.  My toe nail polish is OFF (until March...), making preparations for Halloween costumes, parent/teacher conferences are this week, I've bought and eaten at least one bag of candy corn, starting to think about a theme for Jack's 3rd birthday....I could keep going, but I'll stop there.  I love fall!

We have been keeping very busy around here!  Just last week, for example, Ryan had an interview, Lia saw pediatrician and ophthalmologist,  Jack saw a dentist (story below), I completed my last IEP training course, and we made a trip to the pumpkin patch!

6 month pediatrician update:  Lia weighs in at 15 lbs. 10 oz. and is 27" long!  (That's long and skinny!) Her hemangiomas are continuing to shrink, she got her 6 mo. shots including the first part of her flu shot, and next month we will start her RSV shots.  She will get one once a month until March, which is the end of RSV season.  Now that her diaphragm has healed, we have been given permission to put her in an in-home daycare!  Huge answered prayer, as we didn't know what we would do with her once Ryan got a job.

Ophthalmology update:  The hemangioma on her eye is not obstructing her vision!  YAY!  In fact, she has very good vision, which is also a huge relief.  Jack sees the same opthamologist later this month for his semi-annual appointment.  We are hoping to get a good report on his eyes as well.   I will keep you posted.  For those of you who just started reading the blog, and may not know about Jack's vision problems, click here.

School is going well for me.  I am in the process of writing my first IEP, and will be having my first IEP meeting later this week.  Ryan is still in job search mode, and hopefully soon I will be able to write to you about a new job for him.  Until then, he continues to be the best husband and daddy anyone could ask for!

Uncle Dan came over to watch the Iowa game with us last weekend!  We love playing with him.

Willowbrook Elementary participated in the healthiest state walk last week.  The school is literally right next to the horse track, so we did a lap around the track.  Once around is 1 mile!

 Jack took a bad spill off his bike.  Including this scrape on his chin, a sore neck, and a chipped tooth!

Grandma was taking picture of Lia in the backseat on the way home.  Love those blues!
My in laws came down last week to go fishing, so Ryan, Jack, and Lia met up with them for a boat ride.  It was Jack's first time on the boat, and he loved it.  Grandpa even let him drive :)

Boys will be boys...chipped teeth and scraped body parts are all part of the adventure! Jack & Lia are adorable...so glad you post pics so we can watch them grow. Sounds like things are going good for you all. We're praying this job comes to fruition for Ryan...and soon! Things are working out just as God has arranged. It just makes me so happy to know you are near your family again. It's special for the kids to grow up with their grandparents close by. And your kids always have such pretty eyes! Wish we had some of your fall weather. It's getting better, but will still be in the 90's again next week. Yuck!

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that! Once again, thank you for all your continued support and prayer!  Don't we have an amazing God? These oral feedings r...
