ER Visit

I was one nervous wife on Saturday night when I got a call at about 8:30 that Ryan had passed out at work!  Jack and I rushed to pick him up.  I found out from his boss that he fainted and was out cold for about 15 seconds.  Ryan doesn't have much recollection of the incident, just remembers thinking that he needed to sit down.  When he woke up he felt fine, but after several opinions from different people we decided to play it safe, and go to the ER just to be sure everything was ok.

Luckily, all the tests came back fine.  The doctors are still puzzled as to why it happened.  Their thinking he probably just got hot, and since he had been working all day, collapsed.  I was so relieved that he was ok, because I had a bigger problem on my hands.....an almost 2 year old, in the ER, for two hours, with all the buttons, chords, and noises imaginable.  Since I had some warning that we were going to the hospital, I packed a few things to entertain him, but he wasn't interested in his books or crayons, he was interested in climbing on the hospital beds, pulling on chords, pushing buttons, playing with the swinging curtain, bothering the people next to us, and just about everything else you can imagine.  One more reason why I wished we lived closer to family!!

Anyway,  all is well here, we're all healthy, no one has fainted in a few days, and we're looking forward to a visit from Grandma Diane and Grandpa Maury this weekend!

Aren't those kind of phone calls just awful? I am so glad Ryan is okay, but watch him carefully for a while

My daughter started passing out the middle of her Jr year in college. We eventually got to the bottom of it and she had an inner ear issue that was magnafied by being in the high altitude, as she was in school at NAU in Flagstaff. It got so bad we had to move her home and she had to finish her degree commuting to Tucson.

Oh my gosh! Glad that Ryan is OK. If something like this ever happens and you need someone to come and get Jack or watch him for a while please let me know - I would be more than happy to help out!!

Glad to hear that Ryan is okay - very scary though! Had he eaten anything that day? Maybe his blood sugar was low???

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that!
