We Knee-d Answers!!

Well--here I am again with another update on Lia.  Dr. Akin (rheumatologist/St. Paul) called today and cancelled Lia's steriod injection appointment set for next week.  She feels that, after talking to two radiologists, and the orthopedic surgeon that maybe we aren't dealing with arthritis after all.  {Insert LONG, exaggerated, eye rolling, sigh}.  I'm sorry--what?

Yep, the radiologists are concerned that the spot on her tibia may have grown into her leg muscle.  If that is the case, it will need to be removed.  She also mentioned that synovial chondromatosis may be back in consideration. {head swirling}.  She also mentioned tuberculosis.  Yes, tuberculosis.  We are going tomorrow to Lia's pediatrician to get a test for that.  Apparently it can be associated with joint issues. {head shaking}.  Dr. Akin is going to summon a few more opinions before she makes any decisions on what to do, which she also said may STILL be knee injections. {counting to 10}

In the meantime, we have had Lia's eyes checked for inflammation, and none was found.  Silver lining:  She has perfect vision.  

I have no idea whats going on, and apparently nobody else does either.  I'm frustrated, and annoyed.  I just want things to be better.  The first two weeks on Naproxen have been ok.  Lia hates taking it, and I feel like it works for a while, but not long term.
Poor Rapunzel (that's the princess name shes going by today).  Really hard time walking today and it never seemed to get better.

 In other news, because life does go on, my 4th graders are amazing.  I am so happy with my change back into general education.  When I'm with them, life is normal for 8 hours and I forget about things going on outside the room. We wore blue on Monday to 'Stomp out Bullying' and each of them completed 3 acts of kindness.

And I couldn't leave this off.  Jack enjoying some very special pancakes.

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that!
