The Pink Hippo (a children's boutique in Urbandale) has chosen Lia as their April Diva of the Month! They are selling the 'Lia' bow, completely designed in her honor, and donating 50% of all the proceeds to the American Heart Association!
She got to have a special photo session wearing her bow, so the world can see how cute it is (hot pink and orange ribbon with sparkly pink and orange tulle). This has been such a fun experience for us, and we especially love that it is going towards a great cause!
[Soap Box] There is no cure for heart disease! Surgical procedures and medications are the only treatments that there currently are. The American Heart Association is doing amazing research in hopes of one day finding a cure for this terrible and deadly disease. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, and 1 in 110 babies are born with congential heart defects, like Lia. I have become passionate about this since Lia's diagnosis. This is something she will live with for her ENTIRE life, people! In the last 2 years, I have been apart of helping to pass life saving laws for screening for heart defects in newborns in Iowa, and raising money for the AHA through the Des Moines Heart Walk. Team Lia raised over $800 dollars for last years walk, and now this is another opportunity for us to give back to an amazing charity that has given so much to us. Please consider purchasing a bow. If not, don't worry, the heart walk is coming up on June 14, which means another opportunity to give back. [Stepping off soap box...]
