July

Dear July, you offered us FIVE Friday's this year, which feels like it should be some sort of record! Sadly though, today they come to an end!  Thank you for a fun filled month with (mostly) beautiful weather.  I hate to see you go, because that means the start of school is right around the corner, but I will forever remember the memories you gave us.  Actually, that's not true, because I have a terrible memory, but with the help of this blog post, I will look back on all the fun we had this month!


Swim Lessons with Kelcie! Side Note: Kelcie is joining the fourth grade team this year, and I'm so excited!  Oh, and she just got engaged too!

A girls trip to Chicago!  Had an absolute BLAST!

Both kids got great reports from the dentist this month!  There is no photo of Lia at the dentist because I had to lay in the chair with her on top of me.  That was a blast, let me tell ya!
Lia attended her first Princess Dance Camp!  We are excited to enroll her in studio lessons this fall.

A fun evening catching up with these lovely ladies from high school.  Lots of laughs with them.

A family fun trip to Adventureland!  Jack and Brynn were fearless!  Lia, not so much, but she warmed up after a while.

We got to see Aunt Sarah during our trip to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital for an arthritis check up!  Lia's arthritis is looking a lot better and we hope to see it completely gone within the next three months!  The methotrexate injections are doing some great work!

On Sunday, Ryan and I will celebrate 7 years of marriage and we are headed to Fairbank to see Uncle Spencer who has arrived home from his tour in Jordan!  We are so thankful to God for his safe return.  I am wrapping up my last week of summer school next week and after that, we are heading off to Kansas City for a couple days to get away one last time before summer comes to and end.  Hope all is well!  Take care.

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that!
