Birthdays, BBQ, and Brynn

We have been very busy welcoming July! We finished off the last couple days of June by celebrating my cousin, Eli's, birthday, and Ryan's birthday!  The first week of July marked a trip to Clarion to meet baby Elliet, a trip to Elkhart to see the Boyle family, fireworks (of course...), and a special visit from Morgan and Brynn!

Grandma Sue and Grandpa Jeff are wrapping up their vacation time in Florida.  We are picking them up at the airport on Sunday.  We have missed them a lot, and are excited to hear about their time on Marco Island! I start summer school on Monday, for the next 4 weeks, and then one more week off, and back to school I go! It's so weird to think that I'll be taking Jack to school with me this fall.

Lia had her 15 month well child, and ENT appointment this last week.  She is doing SO GOOD.  All this good news we keep getting about her health is so amazing.  She is weighing in at 21 lbs. 12 oz., and is TALL!  Shes in the 93rd percentile for her height! We are continuing with the propranolol for her hemangioma's and will reevaluate with ENT at her 18 mo. appt., to decide if we can stop with those meds or not.  Her hemangioma's continue to shrink and soften up.  The nurse practitioner couldn't even find the one on the inside of her cheek.  Dr. Young had to point in out to her. You can still see the one on her eye, but if you don't already know that it's a hemangioma, you might just think her eye looks bloodshot.  Cardiology is later this month, we will not do an echo this time, just and EKG.  Hopefully another echo is not needed for another 6 months or so.

If you are on my Facebook, you already know that Governor Branstad SIGNED the pulse ox bill that passed in the house earlier this year!  I am so very excited about that.  We get to attend a formal signing at the capital in a couple weeks.  I love that I have been able to share a bit of our story on a bigger platform! And even more importantly, countless lives will be saved because of this bill!  Some babies with congenital heart defects leave the hospital with no symptoms, this is a huge step in screening all newborns for CHDs

We got to meet Landon for the first time while visiting Jenn and Andy in Elkhart!  WHAT A FLIRT!  He loved Lia, and was sooooo cute!

Fun with glowsticks! (No sparklers allowed!) Jack slept with about 15 glowsticks that night.  They made for a cool nightlight!

Morgan and Brynn came over from Harlan to spend the day with us today!  We went swimming, shopping, and played hard!

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that!
