ENT Visit

Today was Lia's ENT appointment to further investigate the hemangioma's on her face, eye, mouth, and throat.  After a scope down her nose, we discovered that she also has one on her voice box, which is concerning, because they grow rapidly, and could cut off her airway.  That was the furthest they could investigate in the office, so they are going to do an outpatient surgical procedure on Monday, the 11th, to go further down her airway.  Dr. Young (her ENT doc) said that he suspects that since there were some on her voice box, there will probably be more. Right now, we are treating them with Propranolol, which has been found to be very successful in heart babies who develop a problem with heamangiomas.  She will be on the proranolol for at least the next year to keep the hemangiomas at bay.

She will be put completely under for the procedure, and they have said that since she has heart issues, we may also be spending the night.  Keep the prayers coming!

Our next step is to see an opthamologist about the one on her eye, to make sure that it isn't obstructing her vision or worse.

In other news, we went to my cousin, Janae's wedding this weekend at Lake Darling.  It was a beautiful day for an outdoor wedding, and we had a lot of fun.  I know this summer is going to fly by.  We already have every weekend in June and most of July full of either weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, bachelorette/bachelor parties, etc.  I do love the summer though!

Sorry to hear Lia has yet another hurdle but she is a strong little girl and will overcome this as well! Braden sees Dr. Young and we have had a great experience with him. I think you guys will like him! Prayers continue for you!

Praying for Lia today...she's got her pink fighting gloves on and lots of prayers behind her for a great outcome! Rob is curious to know how her opthalmology appt goes too, so will be checking your blog regularly. He said he does see these in infants and they tend to get smaller instead of bigger, so we're hoping for the best in Lia's case. I've got that family photo that I'll send to your mom's email. So glad you're time at Janae's wedding was so joyous...great pics! Love & blessings to you~ Tammy

9 1/2 Hours

9 1/2 hours until my sweet baby girl goes in for her third open heart surgery.  This isn't just any surgery.  It's a big one.  This surgery would be a big deal for a 40 year old.  So you can imagine the seriousness and high risk on a 3 week old.  I am nauseous and scared.  I pray with all my heart that her little body can handle the intensity and recovery involved with something this big.  The nurses have prepared us for the worst, which I am thankful for, but am remaining optimistic and strong in faith.  They have told me that she will be VERY sick for several days following her surgery.  She may even come back to her room in the PICU still on bypass.  Even if she doesn't come back on bypass, she could still go back on it a few days later.  In addition to all her machines and medicines now, she will also come back with a pacemaker, and possibly the ECMO (bypass) machine. Praising God!!!

Lia has had a REALLY good 24 hours! She passed her carseat test! Has taken ALL her feedings orally! Feeding tube is OUT! Breathing treatments have been cancelled! Ryan and I have started a 24 hr PCS (parent care status) where we are completely in charge of all feedings and medications.  The nurse will only check on us periodically. This is done to make sure we will be able to handle everything at home. NO MONITORS!  I just walked into our bathroom with Lia...simply because I COULD! Pharmacy has come to talk to us about all her prescriptions, and how to administer all medications. Got a basket ready for all the 'skimming' supplies I'll need for home. Arrangements have been made for follow up care with cardiologist and pediatrician! Discharge, yes, I said it, DISCHARGE scheduled for Tuesday!  Ok, I'm crying now that I just typed that!
